Is Bajazet a common name in the Arab world?
Hello! I have been working on a French tragedy whose title is "Bajazet", written by Jean Racine in 1672. The tragedy is set in the Turkish Ottoman Empire and among all characters I was intrigued by the name of the main hero, who is Bajazet. Looking on Wikipedia (en) it says that is an Arabic but also Persian, Bengali, Pashto and Turkish name, but I decided to ask here first because of your huge community. I found many versions of it, such as Bayezid, Beyazid, Bayazid, which I suppose are a result of different transliterations. I also found that it was a name of two Turkish Sultans and a Persian Sufi. So I would like to ask if nowadays people are still called Bajazet in Arab countries. It would be very much appreciated if you could redirect me to any other sources about this name other than Wikipedia.
