Help me rehome elderly cats that need care

My parents-in-law have two cats who are about 14 years old—not extremely old for cats, but one of them has diabetes. Unfortunately, they are considering putting her down because she has started peeing on the couch and not consistently using the litter box. However, I believe this behavior is more a result of her condition not being properly managed. She hasn’t been getting the attention or consistent insulin shots she needs, likely due to my in-laws’ own health challenges.

I don’t think it’s fair to put her down, as it feels unnecessary. I believe she could live happily if someone were able to give her the care she needs. To complicate things, the two cats are incredibly attached to one another, so separating them would also be heartbreaking. Ideally, they could both be rehomed together and spend their last years with someone who has the time and ability to care for them.

Does anyone have suggestions on where to rehome elderly cats, especially in NYC or nearby? I’m looking for resources, organizations, or individuals who might take them in, particularly someone who understands the needs of a diabetic cat. Any advice would be greatly appreciated—I just want to give these cats a chance to live out their lives happily and safely.
