How did Carlo die?

In the loading screens we are told that Carlo died from petrification disease but assuming that the nameless puppet is Carlo’s body, then we can see that it doesn’t really seem like it was infected with petrification, at least not badly enough to the point where he had shit growing out of him like Antonia’s right side of her face, also the final sand statue depicts a regretful stalker and someone laying on the ground, I really feel like that someone laying on the ground was Carlo because we gain humanity immediately after, this combined with the sand statues we see before the final one makes me believe that we are regaining or seeing Carlo’s memories, I feel that the Stalker wouldn’t be regretful of Carlo’s death if it was something like a disease that took him, so I really feel like Carlo died violently in action or something like that, plus why is the nameless puppet so messed up, like he has no mouth and his lower half is full mechanical which really makes me think Carlo’s body was so fucked up from the way that he died that Geppetto was only able to salvage like 35% of his original body. All of this does heavily rely on the nameless puppet being Carlo’s corpse and the person who died in the sand statue memories also being Carlo though. I would say he died in one of the many incidents that the stalkers had such as the collapse or the monad charity house thing but I’ve seen many people say that nameless isn’t actually Carlo’s corpse and is just some messed up first experiment, I feel like if this was the case though then why would Geppetto who was capable of making P, make such a horrid looking puppet to be the original vessel for his son, not even just that but he had a fleshy half and a mechanical half which is strange to me considering that P looks fully fleshy and human, though I guess it isn’t a bad thing when something can have different interpretations, both theories work in their own ways in my opinion but nameless being made from Carlo’s corpse was the way that I interpreted it first.
