Feathers so Vicious and Shadows so Cruel | Pale Court?
I just finished my first reads of 2025--{Feathers so Vicious by Liv Zander} and {Shadows so Cruel by Liv Zander} from the Court of Ravens series.
Feathers so Vicious: WOW. Definitely going to be one of my best reads in 2025. I can't believe it's just been hanging out on my TBR for so long.
It's an interesting slice of the world and I had my doubts because (1) I don't read a lot of dark fantasy (obvi I've since changed this position), and (2) birds creep me the fuck out (irrational, I know). I would LOVE more Court of Ravens stories. WHY IS THERE NO MORE?!
And the ending to Feathers so Vicious? The ending was chef's kiss. It just smacked me across the face and I was so taken aback that I had to go back and re-read it to make sure I read it right. If anyone has any recs for endings that pull the rug out from you, please share!
Also loved Shadows so Cruel. But by the time I got into this book I was so annoyed with Sebian and his overuse of "sweetheart" and the questioning "hmm". Truly ruined those words for me. I really liked Sebian initially, and I don't know if it was the overuse of his annoying words or the masquerading, but as he evolved I liked him less and less. Malyr had way more texture, depth, and layers and was less masquerade-y.
P.S. there are dark themes in the series so definitely check trigger warnings. It all serves a purpose for character growth though, but still...it's dark. Particularly if you're just coming into romantasy through SJM.
Question! Has anyone read Liv Zander's Pale Court series and is it worth the read? It doesn't have great reviews. Is it about Hades or something similar? The description just says he's a "ruthless god" in "his kingdom of the dead". I don't want spoilers just want to know what I'm getting into.
