Etna parkrun Italy 🇮🇹

On the lower slopes of Etna itself, you'll find a tiny parkrun volunteered by the most friendly and enthusiastic team you could ever wish to meet.

Situated about a 30-minute drive along the pothole-ridden roads from Catania, it really is an amazing location. A 4 lap trail run olonga black ash route through the woods on the edge of a crater on the lower slopes.

They even supply a great selection of snacks at the end. I've never had a strawberry jam and peanut butter snack sandwich until today, absolutely incredible ♥️☺️

They don't get a lot of runners. One person I was speaking to afterwards says that because schools tend to be open in Italy on a Saturday morning, there's not a lot of locals who tend to run here.

If you're after majestic views of Etna then this may not be the parkrun for you (although a 30 minute drive further up the mountain delivers you to the cable car station about 1500 metres up where you can head towards the top). But it's definitely worth visiting.
