Longest time between rereads?
I’m more of a constant rereader than a constant reader. I’ve read Stephen King novels around 200 times, even though I’ve read less than a quarter of his novels. I just find myself choosing the warm, comforting embrace of The Stand over trying something new pretty darn often.
But I realized while commenting on another post here that I haven’t read The Tommyknockers since I read it back in 1987. The other King books I read back in the 80s, I’ve returned to more than once over the years but not that one.
I’m sure there are a lot of folks who read a book once and never return to it. But for those of you who are also rereaders, what’s the longest gap between readings for you? Are there any where you had a 30+ year gap? I don’t remember much of the plot specifics for this one. Just the very distinct memory that I thought it was an amazing book for the first 2/3 and then went cocaine insane as it was wrapping up. If you’ve done a 30+ year gap, did it echo your previous vibes about the book or did it seem new to you?
I’m gonna do Tommyknockers again this month. 37 years and 2 months seems like long enough. (And then it’s probably time for another Dark Tower trip. It’s been about a year.)
