New Pellet Convert - Patio Legend
Pulled the trigger this weekend on a pellet grill, went with the the 410 Patio Legend. Hope to have it humming for Labor Day!
Some questions I'd love thoughts from others on:
- Coming from Large Big Green Egg, this is my first pellet grill / smoker - where's a good place to start learning the basics? I'm a little more concerned about the smoking side of things.
- What are the second shelf options for the 410? They mention it on the site but I don't see a true second shelf for sale from them. Some aftermarket options found in google. I see this but looking at the numbers is this big enough to smoke two briskets? (https://www.recteq.com/products/small-interior-shelf)
- What's the best approach for adding on a (folding) front shelf?
- I was tempted by the sidekick option of the Camp Chef Woodwind. I saw that someone found a way to "bolt" it on to third-party smoker. Any other options or ideas on how to get a side burner / small griddle?
- At the risk of getting kicked out of the sub... any good options for installing a normal bar-style handle instead of the horns?
Really appreciate any help or direction for a pellet convert!
In case it's relevant here:
- Been using a large BGE for the last 15 years, mostly with a controller fan. Had some damage 2 years ago and have a hard time keeping it at temp since (smokes often get over 300 degrees while i'm sleeping - can't deal with it anymore)
- Grilling regulars: burgers, dogs, sausages, corn and other veggies, tritip, chicken • Smoking regulars: brisket, pork butt, sometimes ribs
- I've got a tiny backyard, and have a 3' x 4' concrete pad to work with - would have loved to have gone bigger but it sounds like the 410 will be enough room for me.
- Considered sticking with Kamado but at a point in life (read: kids) where simplicity is a plus, so thought it made sense to switch to pellet now
Excited to be here, thanks for your help!
